IMHO >someone who is "stuck" at 10WPM could pass a multiple choice >test at 13WPM. >> John - I just posted to the wrong msg so I'll repeat here. I installed an R7 on the 2nd floor section of my chimney and it works great. The length of the antenna makes it a bit hairy to carry across the roof prior to getting it set up, esp at that height and with a steep pitch, but it withstands the wx pretty well. Hope this helps. 73 de ted / AC4CS ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Aug 1994 19:49:20 GMT From: ncrgw2.ncr.com!ncrhub2!ncrcae!news@uunet.uu.net Subject: chimney mounted verticals To: ham-ant@ucsd.edu >In article <1994Aug4.164555.15398@newsgate.sps.mot.com> Mark Monninger writes: >Congrats on the new /AA... > >FWIW, I've had verticals mounted on my chimney for several years, first a >Hy-Gain 14-AVQ, then a Butternut HF-6, and now a Cushcraft R-5. Mark AA7TA> Mark - I mounted an R7 on my chimney on the 2nd floor roof. Works fine but it was a bit dicey getting it up there. Fortunately WB4IUX who is much stronger and younger did the work but it is definately hairy, esp that high up. Otherwise it works great! 73 de Ted AC4CS ------------------------------ Date: 9 Aug 94 14:26:20 GMT From: news-mail-gateway@ucsd.edu Subject: Ham-Ant Digest V94 #252 -Reply To: ham-ant@ucsd.edu I'm on vacation until August 22. In calling many mail-order firms, I find that none have the unit in stock, that they haven't seen one in months, and they don't anticipate having any in stock for 2 or 3 more months. Either the antenna is terrific or MFJ is trying to sell vapor-gear. I might also mention that the mail order price is listed in recent ham radio magazine ads and catalogs as $214-216 range not including shipping. The price over the phone is $259-269 plus shipping. Something screwy going on. Anyone else having similar problems? Might have to go back to a different antenna scheme. One of the salesmen at a mail order house said that if he were boss, he would cancel the entire MFJ line. They've had nothing but problems with them.
